Confusion in CSK’s Captaincy: Deepak Chahar Addresses Dynamics Between Dhoni and Ruturaj Gaikwad
Fans were curious as to whether MS Dhoni, who stepped down as captain of the team in favor of Ruturaj Gaikwad, is still leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK’s ) after a video from the team’s opening IPL 2024 encounter against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chepauk went viral last week. As a result of Dhoni’s active field-setting in the video, players like Suresh Raina and Virender Sehwag made light of his leadership duties for Chennai. On Tuesday, as CSK was playing the Gujarat Titans at home, something similar was also observed. On behalf of the CSK players, fast bowler Deepak Chahar released an explanation following the game. “Is Gaikwad actually the captain?” Fans on social media applauded Sehwag’s humorous on-air remark about former CSK player Raina when the presenters showed a video of Dhoni setting the field during the match against RCB, despite the fact that it was funny.
Everybody’s eyes were on Gaikwad on Friday, March 22, and Tuesday, March 27, when he took over as CSK’s captain prior to the season beginning, following Dhoni’s surprise resignation that shocked the cricket world. Spectators were always waiting for the Gaikwad move because Chennai had already been dealt a serious blow by a similar choice made back in 2022 when Ravindra Jadeja was elevated to the position and ultimately flopped, allowing Dhoni to take back the skipper armband.

According to Deepak Chahar, he must look to both Dhoni and Ruturaj for guidance
Though Chennai emerged victorious in their opening two league games of the 2024 Indian Premier League, many were left questioning if Dhoni should still be captain after seeing clips of him setting the field in both games. “I got to look at Mahi (MSD) bhai and at Ruturaj—both of them these days for field placements and all,” the right-arm bowler said with a sheepish smile on his face when Sunil Gavaskar asked him who he looked towards for fielding instructions during CSK’s decisive 63-run victory over the Titans at home on Tuesday. Ruturaj is doing well and setting the example, so it’s a little unclear where to look right now. After winning their first two games at home, Chennai will travel to the Delhi Capitals on March 31 in Vizag for their first away game in the IPL 2024. They take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on April 5.
