Mohammed Shami Ready for Border-Gavaskar Trophy: ‘Chalo Fir Se Australia Jaakar Halla Bolein’

Mohammed Shami beams when asked about his injury status and expected return to the Indian cricket team. “Itna hype ban gaya hai, ab to mann kar raha hai khelne ka.” With his final appearance in the ODI World Cup final on November 19, the star pacer hasn’t played in a competitive match in almost a year. He had to have surgery and undergo a lengthy recuperation period due to an ankle injury.

Recently, speculations circulated concerning a swelling knee that could further postpone his comeback, initially expected for the present three-Test series against New Zealand. This news created extensive doubt regarding his availability for the highly anticipated tour of Australia, which upset Shami enough to turn to social media to clarify the issue.

Shami responded to the rumors that he had little chance of competing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which were rife with conjecture. “I am completely ready for Australia,” he said. I’m making every effort to get in peak physical condition. My goal is to reach my maximum level of fitness, and I hope to have a great time in Australia.

Speaking on the fringes of a Eugenix Hair Sciences event in Gurugram, Shami said he hopes to make the buzz a reality and win the series in Australia for the third time in a row. “We hope to win it for the third consecutive year,” he continued.

At M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Shami was seen bowling with all of his might following the first Test match against New Zealand. After receiving the all-clear from the BCCI’s medical team, he expressed his wish to play a Ranji match before to his departure for Australia. “My main goal is to maintain my physical fitness and strength before traveling there,” he declared.

Shami thought back to the painful memories of the previous Pink-ball Test in Australia, where India suffered a crushing loss but eventually recovered to win the series 2-1. He says the color of the ball has no bearing on his strategy and is unfazed by the prospect of another day-night match.

He said, “We must have faith in our skills,” emphasizing his emphasis on preparation and technique under all circumstances. Shami is upbeat about the forthcoming series and encourages supporters to help the squad win a hat-trick in Australia.

The Hazards of Social Media

Shami’s social media explanations aren’t just about his injury updates. A few months ago, he responded to remarks made about Virat Kohli that were attributed to Amit Mishra, asking people to double-check information before sharing it. “Everyone is on social media these days. My only request is to please confirm before sharing anything,” he stressed.

Shami hasn’t worn the India jersey for exactly 11 months. He missed the entire domestic season, the Indian Premier League, the T20 World Cup, and the start of the 2024–25 home season. He prioritized recovery and reestablishing his physical and mental connection during this time.

Acknowledging the obstacles of recuperation, Shami remarked, “It’s difficult but this is also a test. Staying patient is paramount for catastrophic injuries. Good things will happen if you have control over it. With hope and perseverance, Shami hopes to make a successful comeback to the field.
