Mohammed Shami Announces Comeback to Cricket After Injury: ‘Ready to Turn the Game’
Mohammed Shami comeback to the cricket field is anticipated with increasing anticipation. Following an ankle injury, the India pacer’s recuperation is going well. The right-arm pacer Shami seemed eager to rejoin the Indian team, based on his latest posts on Instagram. Shami shared a video of himself working out in the gym and bowling in the nets on his Instagram account. Though it doesn’t seem that far off, he didn’t sprint in at full force. Late on Tuesday night, Shami shared pictures from his training session with a comment that made it very evident what he wanted. “Ball in hand and obsession in my heart, ready to turn the game,” he said.
Shami has a serious chance of returning to the Indian team for the September 19–20 home Test series against Bangladesh. He must first demonstrate his match fitness in the Duleep Trophy, though. The four teams chosen by the national selectors will compete in a non-zonal format in this renowned competition, which is scheduled to start on September 4.
Shami’s potential return in the Bangladesh series cannot be ruled out if he is able to recover in time for the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee’s meeting to choose four teams with an eye toward India’s future in Test cricket.
In November, Shami participated in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad against Australia, a match that India ultimately lost. It was his last competitive match. In just seven games, Shami amassed 24 wickets, including three five-wicket and one four-wicket hauls, with an economy rate of 5.26 and an average of 10.70. His pace and swing left fans and commentators in disbelief. It was a tournament to remember. In the semifinals, he had the greatest results (7/57) against New Zealand.
In that tournament, Shami endured pain, but he didn’t let it stop him from doing well. Both the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in January and the tour to South Africa that followed the competition were missed by him.

He had surgery in February to repair an Achilles tendon injury, which kept him out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Gujarat Titans (GT) and the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, which India won after defeating South Africa in the championship match. One of the best pacers of the modern age, Shami has amassed 448 wickets in 188 international matches, including 11 five-wicket hauls.
