PM Narendra Modi Endorses Anurag Thakur’s Caste Census Speech: ‘Exposed INDI Alliance’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed his fellow BJP MP for “exposing” the opposition INDIA group with a “perfect mix of facts and humour,” endorsing former Union minister Anurag Thakur’s remarks in the Lok Sabha on the caste census. “This lecture was given by my vibrant and young colleague, Shri @ianuragthakur, and you must listen to it. A flawless blend of information and comedy, unveiling the unscrupulous politics of the INDI Alliance,” Prime Minister Modi stated on Tuesday night on X, the old Twitter.

The PM’s support was given subsequent to the opposition alliance’s leading party, the Congress, objecting to Thakur’s statement and questioning whether it was delivered “at the prime minister’s behest.” The main area of contention for the old party was that, as he pointed out, Gandhi had not assumed anyone’s name. However, the BJP leader was alleged to have asked what Gandhi’s caste was.

“Discuss the caste census with people whose caste is unclear. “I want to remind the Speaker that in this House itself, a former prime minister RG-1 had opposed reservation for OBCs,” said Thakur, who was apparently making a reference to Rahul’s father, Rajiv Gandhi, to start the conversation. The former Congress chief, who has been outspoken in his call for a national caste census, reacted angrily to the former minister “enquiring” about his caste and accused Thakur of “insulting” him.

Gandhi said, “You can insult me as much as you like, but this Parliament will pass the caste census for India.” “Anyone who raises questions about Dalits, Adivasis, or the backward is mistreated. I’ll gladly take these mistreatments. I have been mistreated and insulted by Anurag Thakur. However, I do not seek an apology from him,” the Lok Sabha’s Leader of Opposition (LoP) continued. During the general elections of 2024, the Congress party made the caste census one of its main campaign promises. Rahul Gandhi dubbed the exercise a “X-ray of India” prior to the elections.
