Mumbai BMW Hit-and-Run: Mihir Shah Sent to Judicial Custody Until July 30
A Mumbai court on Tuesday placed Mihir Shah, the primary accused in the Worli BMW hit-and-run case, under judicial custody till July 30. The 45-year-old Kaveri Nakhwa was killed when the 24-year-old son of a Shiv Sena leader is said to have crashed his BMW into a two-wheeler. This led to the politician’s arrest. At 5:30 am on Worli’s busy Anni Besant Road, the BMW struck their two-wheeler from the back, killing the woman and injuring her husband Pradip Nakhwa.
The woman stayed on the car’s bonnet and became tangled in its wheels for over 1.5 kilometers, according to the police investigation, as Mihir Shah allegedly drove off towards the Bandra Worli Sea Link. Shah allegedly crashed his car into the two-wheeler while intoxicated, according to a Mumbai Police spokesman. In addition to confronting Mihir Shah, 24, along with his family driver and co-accused Rajrishi Bidawat, a Mumbai Police team had recreated the accident scene in order to gather further evidence regarding the sequence of events.
At the moment of the collision, Bidawat was inside the vehicle. The police said that the driver had switched places with Mihir behind the wheel at Rajesh Shah’s orders, a legislator from the Shiv Sena. Moreover, it was alleged that during a police interrogation, Mihir Shah acknowledged to being a regular drinker. He even got a haircut at a barbershop and shaved his beard, according to the police, in an attempt to deceive the investigators.

The Mumbai Police had informed the court that Mihir Shah had driven the vehicle from Girgaon to the sea link entry point at Worli, where the tragedy occurred, on his own. Although passing cars frantically waved and yelled at Shah to stop after his luxury car collided with the couple’s scooter, Shah continued to drive dangerously and ignored their pleas, according to officials. Shah knew full well that the woman was trapped in one of the car’s tires.
