Michael Clarke Criticizes Australia’s Strategy After Virat Kohli’s Century in First Test

In a decisive opening to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India defeated Australia by an overwhelming 295 runs in Perth thanks to the outstanding play of Virat Kohli. Even though he only scored five runs off only 12 balls in the first innings, Kohli came roaring back with an unbroken hundred off 143 balls in the second innings.

This was Kohli’s 81st international century and 30th Test century. It was his eighth Test century on Australian territory, which was impressive and tied Sunil Gavaskar’s record for the most Test hundreds by an Indian in a foreign nation. Rahul Dravid (six in England) and Sachin Tendulkar (six in Australia) are currently behind Kohli.

Michael Clarke Lauds Kohli’s Resurgence

During an ESPNCricinfo conversation, Australian cricket icon Michael Clarke lauded Kohli’s masterpiece in the second innings and expressed his appreciation for the Indian batter’s skill and perseverance.

Clarke said, “You couldn’t ask for a better second innings,” “After a quiet first innings, he came in under little pressure and performed like we know Virat can. He was quick and determined, gaining self-assurance before letting loose his inherent talent. Everyone knew that Virat had returned by the conclusion of his innings.

Clarke also emphasized how difficult it would be for Australia to hold Kohli for the rest of the series. “The top players should never take over the first Test. His confidence has only grown as a result of being allowed to reach a hundred so early in the series. He’s at his best now that he has his swagger back, which makes him the hardest player to stop.

Kohli’s Record Against Australia

In terms of most Test tons against a single opponent in India, Kohli’s century also helped him climb the rankings. He currently trails Sunil Gavaskar’s record 13 centuries against the West Indies, and shares third place with Sachin Tendulkar after hitting nine hundreds against Australia.
