Massive Fire Erupts at Tata Electronics Manufacturing Unit in Hosur, Tamil Nadu

On Saturday morning, there was a large fire at a Tata Electronics factory in Tamil Nadu, India. It started in the part of the factory where mobile phones are made.

When news of the fire broke, staff were told to leave immediately. An Indian news agency said the fire had caused a lot of damage. Firefighters are still at the site trying to control the flames. Local journalists reported that the fire began in a section of the plant used for painting phone accessories.

The factory is situated near two villages. When the fire started, there was a huge amount of black smoke. People living in the villages close by and workers inside the factory were very scared. Several fire engines were sent from a nearby town. Their first job was to make sure it was safe for those still inside the factory to come out. Happily, no one has been hurt.

Investigations are still underway to determine the precise reason behind a fire that broke out while around 1,500 members of staff were on duty during its first shift. The incident was confirmed by a representative for Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL), who told Moneycontrol that an investigation is ongoing.

Emergency procedures were followed as standard practice—something the company does whenever such incidents occur—meaning there are already plans in place. Authorities say they responded to reports of smoke inhalation on behalf of three workers at this factory; after receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, those individuals are now said to be out of danger again (their current conditions remain stable). To ensure an orderly evacuation took place, over 100 police officers were drafted in; their job also involves keeping people well away from the site of the blaze at present.
