Manu Bhaker’s Father Dismisses Marriage Rumors, Emphasizes Focus on Career

Speculations were rife about double Olympic bronze medalist Manu Bhaker’s marriage, all of which her father has trashed as “she’s still very young.” The speculations, in fact, gained ground following the Paris Olympics, when videos went viral showing Manu and her mother discussing with fellow Olympian Neeraj Chopra. Clarifying the matter, Manu’s father said Neeraj is like a son to Manu’s mother.

“Manu is still very young. She is not even of marriageable age and not even thinking about it right now,” Kishan Bhaker said during an interaction with Dainik Bhaskar. Amidst the speculations of Neeraj Chopra’s wedding date, his uncle responded, “Just the way Neeraj’s Olympic victories became a national celebration, his marriage will also be announced to the world when the time comes.”

Both Manu Bhaker and Neeraj Chopra are multiple Olympic medalists and are considered top Indian athletes. On the off chance that competitions for the Indian shooters opened on a high note in Paris, it was 22-year-old Manu who won a bronze in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event. She added another bronze to her medals tally in the team event, this time with Sarabjot Singh.

Manu had to settle for a fourth place in the women’s 25m Pistol event missing a third medal, after a tight contest with leader Veronika Major. She, however would be the first Indian woman to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics and would go on to be one of the flag-bearers for India at the closing ceremony.

Neeraj Chopra has also become the first Indian athlete to win two Olympic medals in track and field. Following the gold in Tokyo, Neeraj clinched silver in men’s javelin in Paris with a throw of 89.45 meters, just behind Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who set an Olympic record with a throw touching over 92 meters.
