Your Weapon Betrayed You in Tokyo. This Time…’: PM Modi’s Phone Call with Paris Olympics Medallist Manu Bhaker
PM Narendra Modi praised Manu Bhaker on her incredible feat of winning the bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol competition at the current Olympics in Paris. Bhaker’s achievement not only secured her a podium spot but also created a historical occasion for Indian shooting as she became the first female Indian to win an Olympic shooting medal.
Bhaker secured India’s maiden medal at the Olympics in Paris with a final score of 221.7. Although she missed a silver medal by a hair, Prime Minister Modi commended the 22-year-old for her exceptional performance. Manu, congratulations on your win. Having won a medal, I am overjoyed. Modi stated in his statement, “You made the nation proud even though you were only 0.1 points away from a silver medal.”
Bhaker’s Olympic trip was hampered by a malfunctioning pistol; this victory was his way of making amends. PM Modi remembered the sad event in Tokyo in his letter to Bhaker, and he was praised for his tenacity and commitment to return three years later. “The weapon deceived you in Tokyo.” However, you handled everything this time,” PM Modi stated over the phone.
“You’re getting credit for two things: becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting and winning India’s first medal at Paris 2024.” Ye Jin of South Korea won the gold medal in the Olympic record-breaking 10m women’s air pistol event, outlasting her competitors with a total of 243.2 points. With a score of 241.3 points, Kim Yeji, a fellow countryman, won silver.
