Manmohan Singh Funeral LIVE Updates: Former PM’s Final Journey from AICC Headquarters to Nigambodh Ghat
Saturday morning, December 28, 2024, saw the beginning of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s last journey from the All India Congress Committee (AICC) central command in New Delhi. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge were among the Congress chiefs who offered their earnest appreciation to the late leader on the sorrowful occasion.
Under tearful cries of “Manmohan Singh Amar Rahe,” a vehicle filled with flowers and transporting Dr. Singh’s inert remaining parts drove out from the Congress headquarters. To permit pioneers and devotees to offer their appreciation, the body was recently taken from his home at 3 Motilal Nehru Street to the AICC headquarters, where it lay in state for 60 minutes. Dr. Singh’s wife, Gursharan Kaur, and one of his children were among the family members who laid wreaths in honor of the former prime minister.
Congress Demands Memorial for Dr. Singh
In a statement, the Congress Party demanded that the funeral take place somewhere that would allow for the establishment of a memorial to honor Dr. Singh’s memory. They stressed the significance of honoring the memories of India’s first Sikh prime minister, calling it a “deliberate insult.” The Union Government responded by declaring that it would set aside funds for a monument honoring the late leader. After a Cabinet meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah notified Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge of the decision.
Tributes from Leaders Across Party Lines
The former prime minister’s body, covered in the tricolor, was spread out before the general society at his home on Friday, December 27, 2024. BJP leader J. P. Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, past President Ram Nath Kovind, President Droupadi Murmu, VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, and a few Association priests were among the dignitaries who paid their tributes.

Seven-Day National Mourning Declared
The Union Home Ministry announced a seven-day nationwide period of mourning in remembrance of the late prime minister. The national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout this time. As India’s prime minister from 2004 to 2014, Dr. Manmohan Singh will be recognized for his contributions to the country and his visionary leadership.
