Man-Eater Wolves Strike Again in Bahraich: 3-Year-Old Girl Killed in Latest Attack
In a tragic incident, a three-year-old girl was killed and two women were seriously injured in a wolf attack in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh late last night.
A pack of man-eating wolves has been wreaking havoc in the district as the district authorities confirmed that they attacked a nine-year-old boy on Saturday.
This wave of violence has claimed several lives in the region-a reason local officials launched an operation to stop the deadly spree. So far, four wolves have been taken into captivity, while two are still on the loose. The latest attack occurred in Tepra village, being the first fatality to take place in about six days.
Bahraich District Magistrate Monika Rani spoke about the difficulties on the ground faced by the authorities in putting an end to these attacks.
“The wolf normally turns active after 5-6 days and every time, it strikes at a new village. The Forest Department is doing everything possible to capture the remaining wolves,” she said.
On Sunday, Chief Forest Conservator, Central Zone, Renu Singh assessed the ongoing ‘Operation Bhediya’. This was after as many as seven children and a woman became victims of wolf attacks in Bahraich in two months.
The authorities are therefore flying continuous drones in order to trace the remaining wolves. “Four wolves have been caught so far, and two are still on the loose. Our teams are patrolling relentlessly, and we are making every possible effort to capture them as soon as possible,” said Singh.
The wolves, which had been elusive all this while, were spotted Saturday night but managed to slip away from the nets laid by the forest teams. Singh urged residents to take a lot of precautions, particularly at night.

“I strongly appeal to everybody to sleep indoors. All those who were attacked earlier were sleeping outside. While we can’t change animal behavior, we can certainly be more vigilant,” she advised.
These attacks have created an atmosphere of dread in the villagers, and they are on high alert. The authorities are still hunting for the other wolves in order to restore safety for the residents.
