Malaika Arora Says Returning to Work After Father’s Death Helped Her Mental Health, Reveals Next Project as ‘Ode to My Father’
Bollywood star Malaika Arora experienced a personal tragedy in September when her father, Anil Mehta, died after he reportedly fell from his Bandra home’s balcony. An inquiry is still on after the police determined it was a suicide. Malaika has since talked about the profound effects the loss has had on her family, although she went back to work after a month, attributing this to her work obligations, which helped her manage her mental health.
In her own words, “Moving forward is essential—that’s what my father would have wanted,” Malaika reflected on the decision to return to work. I’m appreciative of the time I spent grieving. Going back to work has made it easier for me to maintain my focus, take care of my mental health, and assist my mother and family.
Malaika celebrated her 49th birthday in a low-key manner in October, skipping the customary celebrations, as she asked for solitude from supporters and the media. She has since returned with newfound vigor and is working on several projects, such as serving as a judge on “India’s Best Dancer” and participating in a startup investment series.

Malaika shared that she is working on a unique project for her father in a moving homage. “I’m excited about my upcoming collaborations, and I’ll soon announce something close to my heart—a tribute to my father,” she said. Malaika’s stepfather, Anil Mehta, died on September 11; the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium served as the site of his funeral services. Film industry professionals came together to express their sympathies while honoring the family’s right to privacy during this difficult time.
