Major Cyber Attack Hits WHO and British MPs on X: Accounts Compromised

Several international organizations and British politicians’ social media accounts on X, the previous Twitter platform, were hijacked on Wednesday night due to a massive hacking event.

High-profile people were impacted by the hack, including British MPs, and it sparked worries about how vulnerable social media sites are.

British Politicians Targeted

Shabana Mahmood, the justice secretary, and Chris Elmore and Carolyn Harris, the labor members, were among the lawmakers affected. The same messages, including a long code and the words, “THIS IS HACKED ACCOUNT!!!!,” were displayed on their compromised accounts.

Introducing Solana Hacks We provide the token address on every account we breach so that we can pool our resources and earn together. Mahmood’s post was taken down in two minutes, however these posts were still viewable on TweetDeck, a platform for managing X accounts.

British politicians have been the target of such attacks before. After Jeremy Corbyn, the former leader of the Labour Party, had his Twitter account hacked in 2016, nasty comments were sent, criticizing then-Prime Minister David Cameron and the Trident nuclear defense program, among other things.

International Organisations Also Affected

The hacking attack affected foreign companies and organizations in addition to British politicians. The World Health Organization, the television program Great British Menu, and Lenovo’s India division were among those affected.

While many of the compromised posts were removed right after, several were left up for a longer period of time, which worried their followers.

Sooz Kempner, an actor and comedian from Britain, too had her account compromised. Kempner promptly replied, trying to secure her account by changing her password.

Security Concerns

This hacking incident demonstrates how vulnerable popular social media accounts continue to be even with the implementation of more robust security measures.

Although the speedy deletion of compromised messages indicates a certain amount of readiness, the event calls into question whether the security procedures in place are sufficient to stop these kinds of breaches in the first place.

Because social media is still a major part of public conversation, it is crucial to make sure these platforms are secure in order to shield users and organizations from potential threats.
