Kriti Sanon Defends Bollywood’s Legacy: “Theatres Are Back and Thriving”

Recently, Kriti Sanon came out in defense of the timeless legacy of Bollywood in wake of claims that the industry is dying. The conversation had happened on entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, where the latter claimed that the Hindi film industry was dying and not doing as well as it used to, even in terms of providing employment. Rejecting this claim, Kriti went ahead to give another dimension to the changing Bollywood.

She pointed out that though there was a period of stagnation, the industry has bounced back stronger than ever. “Earlier if a film used to earn ₹100 crore, it would be a big deal. Now ₹100 crore is nothing. So somewhere else the expectation has gone,” Kriti said. “There was a phase when it (Bollywood) was not there, but now theatres are back and how.” She categorically said that audience expectation has changed and the industry had to grow with doing what is expected by them.

Supporting her opinion was rapper-singer Badshah, who was part of the podcast. He noted that though times were very challenging, they had managed to bring a lot of learning to the industry, and Bollywood had now reached the phase of resurgence and growth.

Kriti Sanon’s career stands in sync with the changing pace of Bollywood. Starting off her acting career with Nennokadine in 2014 opposite Mahesh Babu, the actress was soon introduced to Bollywood with Heropanti in the same year, opposite Tiger Shroff. Since then, Kriti has featured in some successful movies that include Dilwale; Raabta; Bareilly Ki Barfi; Luka Chuppi; and Mimi. Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew have been box office hits recently, strengthening her position even stronger in the industry.

Kriti will soon be seen in Shashanka Chaturvedi’s mystery crime-thriller Do Patti. The film also stars co-stars Kajol, Shaheer Sheikh, and Tanvi Azmi in significant roles. Kanika Dhillon wrote the script; as reported, it is the first production under Kriti’s newly launched banner, Blue Butterfly Films, which collaborated with Kanika’s Kathha Pictures. Not much information has been revealed about the release date of the film, but Do Patti will have a direct-to-OTT release on Netflix.

Kriti Sanon defended Bollywood as an industry that bounces back and reinvents itself from time to time. Following her successful career and with a number of upcoming projects in the line, Kriti has been one of the major forces pushing the wheel of change for Indian cinema.
