Kolkata Airport Runway Flooded After Heavy Rain; IMD Issues Warning for More Showers

Kolkata, West Bengal’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport saw waterlogging on its runway due to heavy rains that fell continuously on Saturday as a low-pressure region transformed into a deep depression, affecting the city and surrounding districts.

Waterlogging occurred in Kolkata, Howrah, Salt Lake, and Barrackpore as a result of the intense rain. The conditions will not change during the day, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Traffic in central and south Kolkata remained unaffected despite police reports of ankle-deep water. Up to 7 cm of rain fell in certain places since Friday afternoon.

Why Kolkata hit by heavy rain?

“The deep depression that was approaching Bihar and Uttar Pradesh was caused by the low pressure that was over Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal. The rains were triggered by this and an active monsoon trough across southern West Bengal, the official said.
