KL Rahul to Be Released by LSG as New Management Finds Correlation Between Long Innings and Losses
he Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the team he has captained for the last two years, are reportedly not interested in keeping KL Rahul, therefore he will enter the IPL 2024 super auction in November. LSG is unlikely to retain the wicketkeeper-batter, according to The Times of India, with only a week left before teams finalize their lists of retained and released players.
Following a public altercation with franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka following an IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad earlier this year, Rahul’s future with LSG has been the subject of much conjecture. Rahul and the team were silent on the matter, but it was disclosed that the captain had met Goenka at his home in Kolkata to talk about possible outcomes.
Sadly for Rahul, it appears that those conversations did not go his way. Rahul’s strike rate has been noted as a significant problem, and both head coach Justin Langer and new instructor Zaheer Khan have expressed worries about it. IPL sources claim that the management evaluated Rahul’s performance and discovered that LSG had lost almost every game in which he batted long and scored runs. Given the impact player rule’s installation, which has raised scoring rates, this pattern suggests that his strike rate is out of line with the game’s current requirements.
Rahul scored 520 runs in 14 games during the 2024 Indian Premier League, the fewest of any batsman to reach 400 runs with a strike rate of 136.13.
Notwithstanding these difficulties, LSG hasn’t completely ruled out placing an offer for Rahul at the auction. On the day of the auction, the franchise may determine how much they are prepared to spend to keep him.
Mayank Yadav’s Future with LSG
According to IPL insiders, LSG management is eager to keep Mayank Yadav on board because of his potential as a future asset. It is anticipated that he may be given preference on the retention list over players like Bishnoi.
“LSG’s find is Mayank. They made an investment in him when he was still a little-known, and he has proven to have an impact on games,” IPL insiders said. To save as much money as possible, the team may decide to keep uncapped youngsters like left-arm seamer Mohsin Khan and Ayush Badoni.
