Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 16 Kicks Off with an Emotional Start and a Tough Mahabharata Question
The sixteenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) premiered on Monday, August 12, with an emotional opening by its legendary host, Amitabh Bachchan. The iconic actor kicked off the episode with his signature sprint and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the audience for their unwavering support. He remarked, “Today marks the start of a new season. But I’m a little short of words today. And that’s because no word can convey gratitude for your love.”
As the show commenced, Bachchan introduced the eager contestants, and after an intense ‘Fastest Finger First’ round, Utkarsh Baxi from Bengaluru secured his spot on the hot seat. Utkarsh, an HR professional, navigated the quiz with confidence but stumbled on the Rs 25 lakh question, which was centered around the epic Mahabharata.
The challenging question was: According to the Mahabharata, which god gifted a garland to Amba, saying whoever wears it will be the person to kill Bhishma? The options provided were Lord Shiva, Lord Kartikeya, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Vayu. Unsure of the correct answer, Utkarsh used the ‘Video Call a Friend’ lifeline. His friend suggested Lord Shiva, but Utkarsh wasn’t convinced.
To double-check, he utilized the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, which allows two attempts to answer but forbids quitting. Utkarsh first chose Lord Shiva, which was incorrect. His second choice, Lord Vayu, also turned out to be wrong, resulting in a missed opportunity to win Rs 25 lakh.
Amitabh Bachchan then revealed the correct answer: Lord Kartikeya. He elaborated, “Lord Kartikeya, after rigorous penance, appeared in front of Amba in his six-faced avatar and presented her with a garland. He said whoever wears it will be able to kill Bhishma. Since nobody was ready to do it, he threw it on a pole. Later, when Amba was reborn as Shikhandi, she wore the garland and killed Bhishma.”

Due to his incorrect answer, Utkarsh lost the chance to win Rs 12.5 lakh, which he could have secured if he had chosen to quit. Ultimately, he walked away with Rs 3.20 lakh.
In the same episode, Amitabh Bachchan introduced an exciting new feature called ‘Super Sawal.’ This option allows contestants to answer a question without receiving the four multiple-choice options. If they answer correctly, the prize money for that question is doubled. However, the ‘Super Sawal’ option can only be used between the 6th and 10th questions.
