Kangana Ranaut Slams CBFC as Bombay HC Criticizes Delay in Emergency Certification

Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut reacts to Bombay High Court’s recent verdict regarding the delay in certification of her upcoming Emergency. The film, slated for a release on September 6, has been pushed ahead by two weeks owing to the continuing problems with the CBFC.

Taking to X on Wednesday, Kangana shared a tweet from Live Law and wrote, “High court has blasted censor for illegally withholding the certificate of #Emergency.” Her reaction comes after the Madhya Pradesh High Court ordered the CBFC to hear objections regarding the film before granting a certificate to it.

Delay Details

The Bombay high directed the CBFC to look into the objections and grant its certificate to the film before September 18. Zee Entertainment Enterprise, the movie’s producer had moved the Bombay high court to get immediate clearance for the biopic.
Findings of Court

A division bench comprising Justices B.P. Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla said, “Whereas the certificate is prepared by the CBFC, it has not been issued by them.” The court also condemned the contention made by CBFC that it was an unsigned certificate saying, “If not for the Madhya Pradesh High Court’s order, the certificate would have been issued forthwith.”.

The Bombay High Court recognised the arguments put forward by the petitioner but said it could not grant the relief as there was already an order from the Madhya Pradesh High Court in operation.
