Kangana Ranaut Shares 2011 Interview, Highlights Promise Kept to Anupam Kher in ‘Emergency’

This month, the historical political thriller Emergency, which Kangana Ranaut is directing alone, will be released. She plays the principal character of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the movie, while legendary actor Anupam Kher plays Jayaprakash Narayan. A 14-year-old video of Kangana vowing to cast Anupam in her directing endeavor has emerged as the movie’s premiere draws near, drawing interest from both moviegoers and fans.

Kangana’s Promise to Anupam Kher

Kangana’s open discussion with her co-star is included in the video, which was first broadcast on The Anupam Kher Show in 2014. Following Queen’s triumph, Kangana was questioned about her goals and stated that she wanted to write books and direct a movie. In a lighthearted conversation, Anupam inquired about casting him in her upcoming film. “Bilkul lenge (for sure),” Kangana reassured him, and she even made a joke about filming the movie in the hills because of Anupam’s local ties. With a firm commitment to the vow “in front of the entire nation,” Kangana responded to Anupam’s hilarious warning that the section would not be censored.

Kangana Delivers on Her Promise

In 2025, Kangana has never wavered from her promise. She recently stated in an interview that she is adamant about Anupam Kher joining Emergency. I wouldn’t have produced the movie if he had declined. She stated, “He’s the ideal choice to play Jayaprakash Narayan because of his on-screen persona and the honesty on his face.”

About Emergency

The video explores the political unrest that occurred in 1975 after Indira Gandhi proclaimed a period of emergency in India, which sparked strong opposition. In addition to directing the movie, Kangana plays the lead role of Indira Gandhi. Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, and Shreyas Talpade are among the cast members, completing the film’s impressive ensemble.

Emergency captures Kangana’s vision and dedication to the narrative, even though it wasn’t shot fully in the hills as she had originally envisioned. The film promises a compelling story and strong performances when it opens in theaters on January 17. Kangana’s big endeavor, which combines politics, history, and drama and represents a major turning point in her career, is highly anticipated by her fans.
