Tamil Nadu BSP Chief Murder: 8 Suspects Detained; Party Workers Block Chennai Road
According to a news outlet on Saturday, which cited the police, at least eight people have been apprehended for the death of K. Armstrong, the state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). A six-person gang killed K. Armstrong on Friday by stabbing him to death close to his Chennai home. Armstrong, a former Chennai Corporation councillor, was ambushed by the gang close to his Perambur home. Before they could escape, they seriously injured Armstrong. On the way to the hospital, he passed away.
Ten teams of police have been constituted to apprehend the suspects, Asra Garg, assistant commissioner (North), told reporters. Eight individuals have so far been apprehended. This inquiry is still in its early stages and is just preliminary. Therefore, when more information and situations become available over time, a more distinct and improved image will become apparent,” he stated. According to Garg, the police had suspicions about “two to three suspicious motives” for Armstrong’s killing, but they would only know for sure once the suspects were questioned.
BSP workers hold protests
Concurrently, BSP members and workers in Chennai staged rallies against Armstrong’s death. Around Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital, where the party’s state unit president, K. Armstrong, is having his postmortem, BSP members and workers stopped the road, causing a traffic gridlock on Chennai’s Poonamallee High Road. The news agency reported that the demonstrators stated they had no faith in the Tamil Nadu government and that they wanted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to look into the situation. Additionally, they have demanded MK Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, resign.
The brutal murder of the BSP’s Tamil Nadu president has been denounced by the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati, who has also called on the state government to “punish the guilty.”a “It is really disgusting and abhorrent that K. Armstrong, the president of the Tamil Nadu state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was killed so brutally outside of his Chennai home. He was a well-known Dalit voice in the state and a professional advocate. Mayawati wrote on X on Friday, “The state government needs to punish those who are guilty.”

Who was K. Armstrong?
K. Armstrong practiced law in Chennai courts after earning his legal degree from Venkateswara University in Tirupati. In 2006, he was elected as a corporate councillor, and in the following year, he took over as the BSP’s Tamil Nadu unit president. He ran for the Kolathur seat in the 2011 Tamil Nadu assembly election and, although he did not win, garnered a lot of support. He has always fought for Dalits’ and poor people’s rights throughout his career. Amstrong, an advocate, was a well-known Dalit voice, even though the BSP does not have a political presence in Chennai.
