Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s Relationship Timeline: Two Decades, Two Weddings, and Two Breakups

Twenty years, two engagements, and two weddings later, Jennifer Lopez comes around to filing for divorce from Ben Affleck. This week, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after one of the most high-profile relationships that captured the public imagination and tabloid headlines alike.Before power-couple monikers became a thing, their story was known as “Bennifer,” a love story with drama.

First Encounter

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck met at the 70th Academy Awards and through the premiere of his film Armageddon in 1998. But it was on the set of the 2003 movie Gigli that their romantic flame was fanned before they starred in Jersey Girl together in 2004.

Engagement First Split

The couple became engaged in 2002 and were to have their wedding in 2003. Just four days before the wedding they cancelled and by early 2004, that is four months after the cancelled wedding, the had separated, Lopez admitting the heavy media scrutiny did not help.

Bennifer 2.0 Seventeen years on from that first split, Lopez and Affleck ended up in each other’s arms once more and started dating again in 2021. A year down the line from there, they made their second engagement official and entered into a new phase of the relationship 20 years since first doing the same.

Twice Married

Their second wedding was a hurried affair, very intimate, in Las Vegas at the A Little White Wedding Chapel at about 1:00 AM. Lopez summed the night as the best part of their lives. They had another big, fancy ceremony a month later at Affleck’s home in Georgia with all the friends and family watching from close range.

Divorce Application Submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Courts, Jennifer Lopez files for divorce, stating April 26, 2024, is when they separated, and nowhere in the document did it reveal if there was a prenuptial agreement. Coming up in Lopez’s pipeline are both Unstoppable and Kiss of the Spider Woman—all produced by Affleck — as he stars in The Accountant 2.
