Jasprit Bumrah Injury: Taken for Scans, Virat Kohli Leads India as Captain in Sydney Test

On Day 2 of the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the SCG in Sydney, India’s stand-in captain, Virat Kohli, took charge when regular skipper Jasprit Bumrah was injured and had to leave the field. It was confirmed that after feeling uneasy while bowling, Bumrah, the world’s top-ranked fast bowler, left for scans with the Indian team doctor. In footage shown on Star Sports, Bumrah was seen leaving the field in a training suit and being taken to a local hospital for additional medical assessment. Although the precise type and severity of his injuries are yet unknown, several media speculate that they may be connected to a recurrent back problem that necessitated surgery in the past.

Bumrah’s Injury Update

Early in the day, Bumrah’s ailment became apparent as he departed the field right before lunch. After the interval, he came back to bowl one more over, but he was forced to leave the field once more, and Abhimanyu Easwaran replaced him. Bumrah was observed talking to Kohli before leaving, most likely to let him know about the agony or discomfort he was experiencing. After this, Kohli assumed leadership responsibilities and altered the bowling attack’s strategy. The injury may affect the outcome of the game and series. As well as being India’s best quick bowler, Bumrah is filling in as chief for this Test match in Rohit Sharma’s place. Due to a protracted lapse in his batting form, Rohit resigned as captain for the series finale. Whether Bumrah can bowl in Australia’s second innings is still up in the air.

A Possible Back Injury

During the tea break, Mayanti Langer, the host for Star Sports, stated that the ailment may be connected to a back problem. Concerns over the recurrence of such an ailment are raised by the fact that Bumrah underwent back surgery a few years prior.

Bumrah’s Record-Breaking Performance

On Day 2, Bumrah continued his outstanding play by dismissing Marnus Labuschagne, giving India an early lead. He topped the Australian Indian bowlers’ wicket-taking chart with the 32nd wicket in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With this incredible achievement, he broke the long-standing record of 31 wickets in the 1977–78 series held by the renowned Bishan Singh Bedi. After a furious verbal altercation with Australian player Sam Konstas, Bumrah hit Bedi’s record on Day 1 by dismissing Usman Khawaja.
