Jailed Pro-Khalistan MP Amritpal Singh to Launch New Political Party on January 14
Amritpal Singh, a Khadoor Sahib MP now detained in Assam’s Dibrugarh Jail under the National Security Act (NSA), is preparing to announce a new regional political party on January 14, 2025. This significant event, which will coincide with the “Panth Bachao, Punjab Bachao” rally, will take place at Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab, during the Maghi Da Mela.
After an extensive 36-day manhunt driven by Punjab Police, Amritpal Singh, a prominent Sikh minister and previous head of “Waris Punjab De,” was arrested under the NSA on April 23, 2023. Amritpal Singh, who is well-known for his pro-Khalistani statements, has likewise been associated with the assault on the Ajnala police headquarters, in which outfitted allies battled cops after one of their assistants was arrested.
Recent Developments
Amritpal Singh made news on July 5, 2024, when he traveled to Delhi to take his oath as a Lok Sabha MP while being jailed. He is being held under the NSA, which grants specialists to confine the people who are viewed as a threat to public safety for a limit of one year without documenting official charges.
A New Political Vision
Tasrem Singh, Amritpal Singh’s father, has also made a strong case for Punjab’s need for a new political movement. Following their tour to Amritsar’s Golden Temple, Tasrem Singh and his spouse spoke to the media in September 2024, stressing the need for a new party to tackle Punjab’s problems and advance “welfare for all.”
