Jacqueline Fernandez Denies Knowledge of Gifts from Conman Sukesh Chandrashekar in Rs 200 Crore Money Laundering Case
In the ongoing Rs 200 crore money laundering case involving jailed conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez’s legal team claimed before the Delhi High Court that she was unaware of the illegal origins of the lavish gifts she received, which were allegedly linked to Chandrasekhar’s criminal activities. At a new hearing, Jacqueline’s lawyer submitted focuses opposing the charge sheet documented against her, underscoring her absence of contribution in tax evasion. They maintained Fernandez was unaware that these presents were derived from alleged criminal earnings.
Justice Anish Dayal presented a vital issue about whether an adult has a responsibility to investigate the sources of presents they accept, adding a thought-provoking dimension to the case, which is set for further hearings on November 26. Senior Advocate Siddharth Agrawal, who represented Fernandez, claimed she was unaware of the alleged funds extorted from Aditi Singh by Sukesh Chandrasekhar. Agrawal emphasized that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had not charged Fernandez of intentionally collecting proceeds of crime, and that, while there may have been an overlook on her part, it was not a criminal omission and so non-actionable under the law.

The ED said Fernandez missed a 2019 news item detailing Chandrasekhar’s questionable behavior, but her defense argued that the piece lacked evidentiary value. Fernandez’s lawyers also claimed that she was misled by co-accused Pinky Irani, who depicted Sukesh as having great political connections. Fernandez reportedly cut off communication with Sukesh after learning of his questionable past, insisting that she had no involvement in money laundering activities. Meanwhile, Sukesh Chandrasekhar has continued to send Fernandez letters from prison, expressing admiration and detailing plans to invest $135 million in Hollywood projects honoring her.
