IPL 2024: RR Skipper Sanju Samson Punished by BCCI After Controversial Dismissal vs Delhi Capitals

In Tuesday’s match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, skipper Sanju Samson was found guilty of violating the IPL Code of Conduct. In retaliation for his offense, the wicketkeeper-batter was fined thirty percent of his match money. The IPL said that the captain of the Rajasthan Royals “committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct” and that he has accepted the punishment from the Match Referee.

The announcement stated, “Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals, has been fined 30% of his match fees for violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Code of Conduct on May 7, 2024, during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match between the Delhi Capitals and the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.” According to IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8, Samson committed a Level 1 offense.He admitted to the transgression and gave his permission for the Match Referee to penalize him. The Match Referee’s ruling is definitive and enforceable for Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, it stated.

Samson may have been sent out for arguing with the umpires after Shai Hope took a catch close to the boundary lines in the 16th over, however the specific offense he committed was not stated. Is it possible that Hope’s feet made contact with the boundary ropes during the capture? The RR captain was not pleased when Samson was declared out by the third umpire. Level 1 offense as defined by IPL Code of Conduct Article 2.8 Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct lists Level 1 offenses as “aggressive, obvious disappointment with an umpire’s decision; an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; debating or having a protracted conversation with the TV Umpire on his or her decision, and then asking for a referral.”
