IPL 2024: Shikhar Dhawan Ruled Out for ‘At Least Seven Days’ Due to Shoulder Injury
Sanjay Bangar, the head of cricket development for Punjab Kings, stated following the team’s close loss to Rajasthan Royals that captain Shikhar Dhawan could be sidelined for at least seven to ten days due to a shoulder issue. Dhawan was not there for Saturday night’s matchup with the Royals. Without him, Sam Curran commanded the side.
“He is probably going to be out for a few days at the very least due to a shoulder issue. It becomes vitally important for the squad to have a seasoned opener, such as Shikhar, who has played on such surfaces.
In the news conference following the game, Bangar stated, “At this point, it appears that he could be out of action for at least seven to ten days.”
“No, no, Jitesh wasn’t supposed to be the vice captain. It’s possible that the impression came from his attendance at the captains’ seminar at the beginning of the IPL.
“However, the prevailing belief was that we couldn’t send Sam to Chennai because he had led the team the year before, arrived late from the UK, and requested to attend a few training sessions. Since a player was required to attend, Jitesh was dispatched as a result.
“Jitesh wasn’t the interim captain, as some had claimed. The former India batting coach stated, “We were very clear in our mind that Sam Curran will be taking over and do the job as the captain if at all there had to be an opening.”
The team’s uneven performance in the competition might be attributed to the fact that neither Dhawan nor Jonny Bairstow have been able to give them flying starts.
