IPL 2024 Opening Match: CSK vs RCB Breaks Viewership Records – Broadcaster

TV viewing records were broken by the Chennai Super Kings vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL 2024 opening, according to broadcasters Disney Star on Thursday. Disney Star stated in an official statement that “16.8 crore unique viewers watched the broadcast of IPL 2024 on Day 1, registering a watch-time of 1276 Crore minutes – the highest for any IPL season’s opening day ever.”

With 6.1 crore viewers watching the broadcast simultaneously on the Disney Star network, the 17th season of the IPL also saw the highest-ever peak TV concurrency for an IPL Opening Day.

“This is a monumental achievement, made possible by fans’ love for Star Sports and the network’s unwavering commitment to’serving fans,'” a spokeswoman for Star Sports stated. Opening Day was presented by a roster of superstars that included World Cup winners, IPL champions, renowned coaches, and sports legends. In addition to India’s World Champions Harbhajan Singh, Irfan Pathan, Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, and Kris Srikkanth, Navjot Singh Sidhu made his comeback to the commentary box.

Steve Smith and Stuart Broad made their debuts, joining Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Brian Lara, Matthew Hayden, Kevin Pietersen, and legend Brian Lara in presenting IPL 2024. IPL winners Vinay Kumar and Venugopal Rao, along with former CSK players Ambati Rayudu, Murali Vijay, L Balaji, and Subramaniam Badrinath, were prominently featured on Disney Star’s regional feeds in nine different languages.
