Former Pakistan Rival Mocks Virat Kohli for ‘Slowest 100 in IPL History’: Cricket Banter Reignites
At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, during the IPL 2024 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals, a previous opponent from the Pakistani squad made a vicious jab at Virat Kohli. With a record-breaking 113 against the Royals, Kohli became the first century of the season, but his efforts were in vain as RCB fell by six wickets after failing to defend 183. Soon after the 35-year-old’s record-breaking eighth century in the IPL, veteran Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan, who has been Kohli’s opponent since the 2008 U-19 World Cup, showed no mercy to the former captain of India. This was after an IPL statistic went viral on social media.
Kohli tied a record in the Indian Premier League by reaching the triple-figure mark in 67 balls, which is the joint-lowest century in the league’s history. Manish Pandey hit a 67-ball century in 2009 against the Deccan Chargers, who are no longer in existence. Junaid congratulated Kohli on his unwelcome feat while trolling him on X, the platform that was formerly known as Twitter. “Congratulations, Virat Kohli, on the slowest century in IPL history,” he wrote. #RRvRCB #IPL2024.

The only Pakistani bowler who has removed Kohli from the game more than any other is Junaid, with three wickets, all of which came during the 2012–13 ODI series in India. In Chennai’s first ODI, Junaid got rid of Kohli for a duck. Kohli nicked one behind the wicket in the second Eden Gardens encounter. In the third Delhi match, he was removed similarly, this time by edging it straight to Younis Khan at the second slip. However, when Junaid spoke on Nadir Shah’s podcast in December of last year, he was all love for Kohli, ranking him as one of the top five hitters in the world. Of the world’s top five batsmen, Virat Kohli remains unbeaten. With the way he has shattered the century mark set by Sachin Tendulkar and set records, particularly in white-ball cricket, “Junaid described him as a world-class batsman.”
