KL Rahul Cleared for IPL 2024, Wicketkeeping Options a Concern for LSG: Report

KL Rahul Cleared for IPL 2024, Wicketkeeping Options a Concern for LSG: Report

The Indian Premier League’s 2018 season will feature star batter KL Rahul playing for the Lucknow Super Giants. After sustaining a quadriceps strain during the first Test in Hyderabad, Rahul was sidelined for the remaining four Test matches against England. Rahul traveled to London to get medical advice regarding his injury, and upon his return to India, he reported it to the NCA. Nonetheless, the LSG captain has been cleared to participate in the IPL, according to a report published by the news agency.

Rahul, in the meantime, uploaded a little video to Instagram a few days ago in which he is seen practicing his outfield skills at the NCA, hitting, and performing basic keeping drills. However, the source went on to say that Rahul should stay away from wicketkeeping during the first few games of the IPL but be able to pick it back up later. “On Thursday, March 20, he and his colleagues will travel to Lucknow upon NCA sanction, ahead of their first game on March 24 in Jaipur against the Rajasthan Royals. It is acknowledged that he was instructed not to squat at first and that in the upcoming days, he can use the large gloves. He would only play as a pure batter for the first four games, a BCCI source who is keeping tabs on LSG’s progress told PTI under anonymity.

The team may not be concerned about keeping Rahul around because they have two excellent choices: Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies and Quinton de Kock, a former Proteas player. To establish himself as a contender for a selection in India’s T20 World Cup squad, he will attempt to pick up the wicketkeeping duties as quickly as feasible. The IPL is the sole opportunity for the wicketkeeper batter, who hasn’t played in the T20 league since the 2022 T20 World Cup, to return. “Given his prior results, Rahul won’t be ranked in the top three for the Indian T20 squad. If he plays well in the IPL, he can be that keeper-batter at No. 5 or 6. However, Rinku Singh is a much better option if he plays only as a batter than Rishabh Pant, who might make a splash with some impressive performances, according to a BCCI source with knowledge of the situation.
