Indian Youth Detained at Newark Airport for Illegal Entry, Faces Deportation to India

According to people familiar with the situation, an Indian person who was recently arrested at Newark Airport in New Jersey, USA, was discovered to have entered the nation unlawfully and without a valid visa. On June 8, a non-resident Indian recorded the youth’s incarceration on camera and shared the footage on social media, bringing attention to the event. Widespread emotions were sparked in India by the viral video, which shows American security personnel handcuffing and wrestling the man to the ground.

The detained person is from Haryana and entered the country without the required paperwork, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. “The person entered the United States without a valid visa, according to confirmation from our consulate in New York. He is being deported back to India per a court order,” one official said.

During his transit through Newark airport, the Indian national’s actions were judged by US authorities to be “not conducive to travel.” He was consequently placed under restraint and taken to a hospital for assessment. “Deportation processes will be concluded once he is medically fit. Regarding the matter, our consulate in New York is still actively interacting with US authorities,” the spokesman continued.

In the meantime, a social media message released on Tuesday by the US Embassy in New Delhi addressed the matter. The embassy stressed the strong U.S. position on illegal immigration and visa abuse without citing any particular example. “Entry into the United States is not a given. Although we accept lawful visitors, we will not put up with unauthorised entry, visa fraud, or any other transgression of US law,” the statement said.

The event underscores persistent worries about illegal immigration and visa infractions, highlighting the need of having the right paperwork and following immigration regulations when visiting the US.
