Indian Navy’s Humanitarian Aid: Rescue Mission for Fishing Vessel with Pakistani Crew in Arabian Sea
After one of the crew members aboard an Iranian fishing vessel carrying 20 Pakistani crew members almost drowned, the Indian Navy responded to a distress call in the Arabian Sea by sending emergency medical assistance. “INS Sumedha mission deployed for antipiracy operations in the Arabian Sea provided critical medical assistance to an Iranian FV (with 20 Pakistani crew) for a near drowning case of one of its crew members in a swift response to a distress call,” the navy said in a statement on Saturday.
Early on April 30, FV Al Rahmani was intercepted by the patrol boat INS Sumedha. A member of the crew was suffering from active convulsions and labored breathing. A team of medical specialists from the ship arrived on board and gave the crew members prompt medical attention. “Post-medical management, the patient was oriented, conscious, and relieved clinically,” stated the report.
The statement went on to say, “The Indian Navy’s mission-deployed units’ unwavering efforts symbolize its unwavering commitment towards protecting and aiding seafarers operating in the region.” The crew of an Iranian fishing vessel, which had been taken over by armed pirates close to Somalia, was safely saved by the Indian Navy in March. On March 28, nine pirates captured the ship, Al-Kambar 786, in the Arabian Sea, southwest of Socotra, Yemen.

The pirates were forced to surrender after the Indian naval vessels INS Sumedha and INS Trishul intervened and used “intense coercive tactical measures” for more than 12 hours. In order to prosecute them under Indian anti-piracy legislation, the caught pirates were brought to India. The 23 Pakistani nationals who made up the crew of the fishing vessel had medical examinations and were given the all-clear to return to fishing.
