Thirteen years have passed since India’s victory over Sri Lanka by six wickets on April 2, 2011, at the esteemed Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, to win the World Cup. The Indian cricket team honored the late Sachin Tendulkar by hoisting him up on their shoulder following the victory.

2011’s World Cup included a number of firsts, including the first-ever appearance in the final by two Asian nations and the first-ever elimination of Australia from the championship game since the 1992 tournament. Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni all gave outstanding performances in the India vs. Sri Lanka match.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to X to celebrate the 13th anniversary of India’s World Cup 2011 victory and published a picture of Team India as champions. “Recall a very memorable day! The BCCI said, “#TeamIndia won the ODI WorldCup for the second time on This Day in 2011.”
Fans of cricket also flocked to the platform to relive the moment when team India won the 2011 World Cup. “April 2nd, 2011 – a moment etched in history, forever giving me goosebumps!” a user said.
