India vs Bangladesh: Yashasvi Jaiswal Poised to Break WTC Record, Surpassing Even Virat Kohli

Young Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal is in striking distance of creating history in the current World Test Championship cycle. The left-handed opening batsman needs 132 runs for this record, which he is expected to do in the forthcoming two-match Test series starting against Bangladesh from September 19 in Chennai, as he is expected to open the batting along with captain Rohit Sharma.

As of right now in the 2023–25 WTC cycle, Jaiswal has 1,028 runs. Ajinkya Rahane needs to hit 132 runs in the two Tests to surpass his record of 1,159 runs from the WTC 2019–21 season. Because of this, Jaiswal will become the first Indian batsman to score the most runs in a single World T20 event, surpassing even Virat Kohli.

Jaiswal is now second in the WTC 2023–25 run rankings with 1,028 runs, behind England’s Ben Duckett. He needs 371 more runs to catch up to Joe Root, who is now leading the pack with 1,398 runs.

India lead the current WTC standings with a points percentage of 68.52. The upcoming series will also pit India against New Zealand at home in three Tests and away to Australia in five Tests. Bangladesh, however, come into the series with a fair amount of form on their side. They whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 in the Test series on Pakistani soil recently.

Rohit Sharma (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, and Yash Dayal are the Indian players for the first Test match against Bangladesh.
