Modi and New Zealand PM Agree to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation in Trade, Investment, and Space

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his New Zealand colleague Christopher Luxon talked about how to strengthen collaboration in sectors like trade, investment, space, and medicines. According to a statement from the external affairs ministry, Luxon called Modi to congratulate him on being re-elected.

The summary noted that the two leaders decided to promote mutually advantageous bilateral cooperation in sectors like trade and economic concerns, animal husbandry, medicines, education, and space, highlighting the momentum created by recent high-level encounters between the two sides.

Both Modi and Luxon reaffirmed their commitment to pushing bilateral collaboration to new heights in the years to come, while acknowledging that close people-to-people ties and shared democratic ideals are the foundation of India-New Zealand ties.

The Indian diaspora in New Zealand is well-represented in Luxon’s portfolio, which Modi appreciated. The readout stated that Luxon promised Modi that steps would be made to ensure their safety and well-being.

In the latter part of the 18th century, Indians began to arrive in New Zealand. As to the 2018 census, approximately 250,000 Indian immigrants comprise 5% of New Zealand’s overall population.
