Rahul Dravid’s Inspirational Boost Sparks Shubman Gill Remarkable Comeback from Brink of Dropping

On Day 4 of the fourth Test match between India and England, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel had to perform above expectations in order to guide the hosts to a five-wicket win in Ranchi. India needed to chase 192 runs, and after 18 overs, openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal had already scored 84 of that total. However, when Gill was joined in the middle by Jurel, there was an unexpected burst of wickets, meaning that England had the upper hand.

But the two maintained their composure as they pushed for the objective. Known for his consistency in both ODI and T20I cricket, Gill collected powerful strokes and came dangerously close to reaching his fifty without hitting a boundary. Without striking a four or a six, the Indians actually bowled for more than thirty overs. Gill and Jurel’s combination saw India through to the finish line as they finished unbeaten on 72 off 136 balls.

Cheteshwar Pujara and India’s head coach Rahul Dravid, who both notably claimed the No. 3 spot, were compared to Gill after his innings. Following the game, the 24-year-old shared an encouraging remark on Instagram, citing Dravid as the source. Who would it be if not you? In the quote, it says, “If not now, then when?”

Gill and Jurel grind England out of the series.

India won the home series for the record-tying 17th time in a row on Monday, thanks to their spirited victory. It came against a determined England side that gave them a serious scare by winning the opening Test and going toe-to-toe with India for the majority of the remaining matches in the series. During the first two days of the fourth Test, England was actually well ahead, but the hosts were able to regain control thanks to a remarkable bowling effort by India headed by Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav, as well as Jurel’s opening-inning century of 90 off 149 balls.

Ben Stokes, the captain of England, continued to deploy his fielders aggressively on Day 4, positioning them all over the circle, which was effective for his team. India lost wickets quickly after each other, going from 84/0 to half-down for 120. England managed to rally thanks in part to the aggressive field, but Gill and Jurel quickly neutralized the threat. They had trouble rotating strikes at first, but later they began to locate gaps more frequently. Gill reached his half-century in 123 deliveries after hitting two sixes in three balls and scoring 39 runs in 119 balls.
