Imran Khan Accuses Pakistani Government of Electoral Fraud and Human Rights Violations in Letter to Chief Justice

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has written a 349-page detailed letter to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Aminuddin accusing large-scale human rights abuses, electoral irregularities and widespread attempt-to-suppress of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Allegations of Electoral Fraud and Human Rights Violations
In the letter, Khan describes wide-ranging allegations of electoral fraud and state-sanctioned repression, with a special focus on events surrounding 26 November 2024. He states that several PTI supporters were illegally arrested between November 24 and 27, and have been manipulated by the authorities to cover up evidence of torture. Khan sharply condemns the courtroom for allegedly ignoring several petitions which have as of late covered 18 months of transgressions. He also claims that PTI cadres have come under extrajudicial killing and forced disappearance.
Personal Arrest and Claims of State Repression
Having himself been arrested on May 9, 2023, at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), Khan recounts the experience as illegal and telecast to incite public disturbance. He claims that when he sought relief against state repression, he was attacked, and the Supreme Court later declared the entire operation illegal. Also, Khan further claims that government intelligence operatives infiltrated PTI peaceful rallies to incite strife and tarnish PTI’s credibility.
Critique of the Current Government
Khan maintains that there has been the assumption of power in the present administration, through election fraud and traditional manipulation. He charges the regime with having inflicted terrible oppression upon the PTI, destroying party premises and beating party leaders to a pulp.
PTI’s Stance on Parliamentary Committee Proposal
Responding to PM Shehbaz Sharif’s proposal of forming a parliamentary committee, PTI member Shibli Faraz described this as a futile one. Faraz argued that the scheme to create a house committee is not an effective one to solve the problem, and stressing that if the government really desired to tackle the problem, a more concrete solution would be expected.
Context of Political Tensions
These developments occur amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan. The ruling government, headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made controversial legal amendments in a move to consolidate power after a surprising victory of opposition candidates. These changes include curbing judicial authority, extending the army chief’s term, legalizing detention without crime, and restricting social media. Critics contend that those actions undermine democracy and lead to authoritarianism.
Moreover, the detention of Pakistan’s former spy master as Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has also put immense pressure on Khan, which may bring about the possibility of treason and mutiny charges against him. According to analysts, the arrest is viewed as a political tactic of the military with the intent of pinning blame on Khan and removing his influence from Pakistan’s political affairs.
Conclusion
Imran Khan’ letter emphasizes to worsen situation of the Pakistani political crisis, accusations of election rigging, human right violations, and silencing opposition voices. The state of affairs is still unfolding and carries important consequences both for the country’s democratic system and, consequently, political stability.
