How Lawrence Bishnoi Operates His Criminal Network from Jail: Everything You Need to Know
The name Lawrence Bishnoi is linked to the recent murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, threats against Bollywood actor Salman Khan, and the ruthless murder of Punjabi artist Sidhu Moose Wala. Presently imprisoned at Gujarat’s Sabarmati Jail, Bishnoi is accused of operating a vast criminal network, communicating with his gang from behind bars through mobile phones and virtual private networks. By drawing comparisons to the gang warfare of the 1970s involving infamous individuals like Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan, and Dawood Ibrahim, his actions have heightened concerns of a resurgence of Mumbai’s underworld criminal scene.
Who is Lawrence Bishnoi?
Bishnoi, a 31-year-old Punjabi mobster, comes from a prosperous farming family in Ferozepur’s Dhattaranwali village. He is from the Bishnoi community and became well-known while studying in Chandigarh through student politics. Since his initial criminal accusations were brought in 2010, he has been connected to more than two dozen instances, including smuggling of weapons, extortion, and murder. With more than 700 gunmen working in five states and ties to both pro-Khalistan organizations and global crime networks, Bishnoi’s gang is renowned for its extensive reach.
Key Associates and Operations
High-profile members of Bishnoi’s gang include Haryana mobster Kala Jathedi and Goldy Brar, who is allegedly living in Canada. Through social media and partnerships with other parties, including as pro-Khalistan terrorists, the gang entices young people with the lure of emigration. Untraceable communication, or “Dabba Calling,” is one of the most notorious ways that Bishnoi’s gang avoids the law.
Notable Cases Linked to Bishnoi
In 2018, when one of Bishnoi’s accomplices carried out reconnaissance on Salman Khan’s home, his name became well-known nationwide. The actor’s role in the blackbuck poaching case was important to the plot since blackbucks are religiously significant to the Bishnoi people. Several death threats have been made against Salman Khan since then, and Bishnoi has demanded that the actor apologize for “humiliating” his tribe.
Another high-profile crime was added to the gang’s roster in 2022 when Bishnoi and Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala. Political leaders have also been connected to Bishnoi’s murders, such as Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, who was murdered in Jaipur in December 2023.
The Salman Khan Feud
Salman Khan and Lawrence Bishnoi have a long-standing enmity that started in 1998 when the actor got involved in the blackbuck hunting case. Bishnoi has openly said that, barring the actor’s apology to the Bishnoi people, his life’s work is to kill Khan. Khan has been the target of several death threats in recent years, including one that was posted at Bandra Bandstand in 2022 and mentioned the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.
Following gunshots outside Salman Khan’s Bandra home in April 2024, the suspects admitted to having connections to Bishnoi’s gang. Members of Bishnoi’s gang have continuously made their presence known by threatening Khan and other celebrities via emails and social media posts.
The Growing Fear of Underworld Resurgence
Gang conflicts reminiscent of Mumbai’s underworld heyday are resurfacing, raising fears as Bishnoi continues to plan his activities from prison. He has become one of India’s most dreaded gangsters, causing concern in the legal and political spheres of the nation due to his ability to escape police enforcement while operating a highly complex network.

Bishnoi’s name is still connected to some of the most well-known crimes of the past few years, and his conflict with Salman Khan continues to garner a lot of attention. Although it is unclear if police will be able to break up his network, Lawrence Bishnoi’s shadow still hangs over Bollywood and beyond.
