Honeymoon Horror: Indore Woman, Lover Hire Killers to Murder Husband in Meghalaya

A 25-year-old Indore lady and her lover allegedly plotted to kill her husband while on honeymoon in Meghalaya, according to alarming police revelations. Only a week after Sonam’s marriage to Raja Raghuvanshi, investigators claim that she and her lover, Raj Kushwaha, planned the crime.
Three contract killers, Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kumar, and Akash Rajput, were employed by Kushwaha, who worked for Sonam’s brother, to carry out the murder on May 18, according to Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dandotiya. The body of the victim was discovered in a ravine close to Meghalaya’s scenic Weisawdong Falls a few days later.
After being reported missing following the murder, Sonam was found in a roadside eatery in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, more than 15 days later. Before being sent to a hospital, she identified herself at a women’s distress centre, according to local sources. She will be brought back for interrogation by a Meghalaya Police team soon.
Murder Planned During Honeymoon, Killers Hired in Advance
Sonam was found to have shared the couple’s current location with the assassins, indicating her direct involvement in the murderous scheme. She even kept in touch with Kushwaha while she was on her honeymoon. In Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, Anand Kumar was detained, while Kushwaha and Vishal Chauhan, one of the hired killers, were taken into custody in Indore. Akash Rajput is still evading capture.
Before the husband vanished, a trekking guide reported seeing the pair with three males, which provided investigators with a crucial clue. According to the guide, Sonam trailed behind Raja, who was leading the three men, which raised suspicions.
Search Operation and Clues from the Gorge
Raja disappeared on May 23 from Sohra, roughly 50 kilometres from Shillong, sparking a major multi-agency search that included volunteers, drones, dog squads, and disaster response troops. He was eventually found dead in a ravine when a drone spotted him.
Evidence found at the scene included clothing, a smartwatch, a broken phone, and a machete with a plastic-wrapped handle—unusual in Meghalaya. We’ve sent the machete for forensic examination. The word “Raja” was tattooed on his right hand, identifying him.
Amid a period of intense rain, the couple’s rental scooter was discovered abandoned, its key still in the ignition.
Family Reactions and Demand for CBI Probe
Sonam and her brother are accused of direct involvement in the crime by Raja Raghuvanshi’s family, while her father Devi Singh has voiced incredulity and called for a CBI investigation, saying, “My daughter cannot kill anyone.” My trust in the Meghalaya Police is lacking.
The chief suspects were captured in seven days, according to Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who commended the prompt inquiry. The arrests were made possible, according to Meghalaya DGP I Nongrang, by fresh information and interstate cooperation.
To further investigate the case, which is now being handled as a blatant case of premeditated homicide, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established.
