Himachal Pradesh Assembly Condemns Kangana Ranaut as Resolution Against Her Remarks is Adopted
The Himachal Pradesh assembly has passed a resolution, supported by the Congress, condemning the remarks of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Mandi Kangana Ranaut vis-à-vis the ongoing farmers’ protests.
The resolution came in response to her recent interview to Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar in which she stated that had there not been a strong leadership, a situation where “Bangladesh-like” riots would have taken place across India was on the cards.
She also alleged that in the run-up to the farmers’ protests unrelated to the geopolitical rivalry between the two countries, hanging bodies were found and there were reported rapes, suggesting a deep conspiracy of China and the US against India.
The statement and the addition of the home state of Kangana, ruled by the Congress party, have resulted in a tsunami of protests over the comment.
It will raise a debating storm between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.
The allegations by Kangana thus sounded extremely provocative, as thousands of farmers from states like Haryana, Punjab, and UP had protested the farm laws at Delhi’s borders for months.
As Haryana is all set to go to assembly polls on October 1, opposition parties have jumped on the bandwagon.
Haryana president of the Aam Aadmi Party, Sushil Gupta, reacted against Kangana’s statement, saying that the statement shows the attitude of the BJP against the farmers.
The AAP also held some protests in Haryana regarding the same.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi added her voice to the criticism, insisting that Kangana tender an apology.
She was grieved in a post on X, claiming that the BJP’s inaction on Kangana’s continued statements just proved that their pretense at standing with farmers was nothing but a lie.
In the Himachal Pradesh assembly, parliamentary affairs minister Harshwardhan Chauhan said Kangana’s remarks amounted to an insult to the entire farming community.
Members of the opposition returned from the walkout, and Chauhan threw an open challenge to them to explain their status on the issue.
In the ensuing uproar, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur said the views expressed by Kangana were her individual, and the BJP had nothing to do with those views.
In another reported example, the BJP disassociated itself from the statements of the actor-turned-politician recently, as party leaders were of the view that they did not agree with her and reiterated that she was neither authorized nor mandated to speak for the party on its policy statements.
The resolution was supported by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and an angry BJP had to tackle the matter within the House.
Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri said the comments of Kangana had angered the farmers and that the BJP should take back its support for her.

Even revenue minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the actress’s remarks could likely disrupt law and order and that an FIR should be registered against Kangana.
Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav accused Kangana of making deliberate comments to divert attention and suggested that maybe because of bad numbers, in case the BJP sees a loss in the Haryana Assembly elections, they will use her as a scapegoat.
