Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Killed in Israeli Airstrike on Beirut, Confirms Military
A significant event occurred when the Israeli military announced that during an airstrike on Beirut a day earlier, they killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Thus far, however, the Iran-backed militant group has said nothing about Nasrallah’s condition following the attack. “Hassan Nasrallah is dead,” said military spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani on Saturday.
The day prior, Israeli strikes hit the Lebanese capital. They confirmed this news further, with Captain David Avraham telling AFP that the Hezbollah head had been “eliminated.” On his health effects or current standing, there has been no update from them since these statements were made. It was also announced via a social media post from the IDF: “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world.”
A source close to Hezbollah told AFP that there had been no contact with Nasrallah since the bombing. “Contact with Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has been lost since Friday evening,” the source said, without confirming whether Nasrallah was dead or alive. Israeli airstrikes, which had started on Friday, were continuing into Saturday morning, with the IDF warning residents before attacking specific buildings.
This latest round of violence began after comments by Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu at the UN General Assembly in New York City: he pledged there would be no let-up from “our” side (against them), making it less likely an immediate ceasefire could go into effect. Amid worsening combat conditions back home, however, Bibi cut short his American trip and flew straight back to Tel Aviv.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health has said that more than 720 individuals have died since Monday, and the total number from this violence is going up all the time. According to the United Nations (UN), over 211,000 people who have had to leave their homes because of fighting are now in South Lebanon—a figure that has risen sharply recently. Humanitarian conditions are getting worse: at least 20 main health facilities have had to close in areas worst affected by violence.

Hezbollah entered the conflict on a new level when it fired rockets into northern Israel, backing the Hamas war there The involvement of Hezbollah has deepened since then; for example, after it fired rockets into northern Israel in support of Hamas’ warfare—as well as against it—those up its activities too. Israeli officials have long warned that if attacks from Hezbollah persist with the same intensity, then the country could suffer similar damage to that seen across Gaza since October 7th.
