Heavy Rain Lashes Delhi-NCR, Waterlogging in Several Areas; IMD Issues Orange Alert
Heavy rain lashed Delhi and its surrounding areas on Friday morning causing waterlogging in large parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department issued an ‘orange’ alert for the national capital, which means people should be prepared for extreme weather conditions.
The weather department has also warned of disruption in road, rail, and air traffic besides the possibility of disruption in the power supply systems.
Waterlogged Areas in Delhi
Several parts of the national capital also saw massive waterlogging, with the Main Outer Ring Road, especially from Bhera Enclave Roundabout and extending up to Peeragarhi, being one of the worst-hit stretches.
Delhi Police posted a traffic alert on X and recommended commuters plan their journey as congestion was building up near Nagin Lake Apartments in Peeragarhi due to waterlogging and sewer overflow.
Weather Forecast for Friday
The IMD has forecast a generally cloudy sky with moderate rain throughout the day in Delhi. The temperature is likely to oscillate between 31°C and 21°C.
Heavy Rain Expected Over the Weekend
IMD had on Thursday predicted very heavy rainfall over parts of Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh over the weekend. A depression, which lies over central India is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the next three days.
The maximum temperature in Delhi-NCR dropped to 27.9°C, six notches below the average, on Thursday, while a maximum of 32.6 degrees Celsius was recorded on Wednesday.
Weekly Weather Forecast for Delhi
Delhi: On September 13, the weather in Delhi will mostly be clouded with moderate rain. Light rain or drizzle is liable to occur on September 14.
The sky will partly remain clouded from September 15 onwards till 17, and the rain or thunderstorms are likely on September 18-19.
Weather in Other States
The IMD, on Friday morning, observed a depression over central Uttar Pradesh. According to predictions, it is likely to move north-northwestwards. Incidents of heavy rain in Uttar Pradesh killed 12 people in the last 24 hours, for which warnings have been issued regarding flash flood and heavy rain in several districts of Awadh and Rohilkhand regions.
In all, four persons, including two children, died in rain-related incidents in Barmer and Dholpur districts of the State.
The heavy rain also led to waterlogging in the low-lying areas of both the districts. An overflowing Urmila Sagar Dam on Dholpur Bari road prompted closure of National Highway 11B connecting Dholpur to Karauli.

According to the IMD forecast, Uttarakhand is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall from September 12 to 14, and extremely heavy rainfall in some areas.
Haryana will witness light to moderate rain interspersed with heavy showers till September 15. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places over Madhya Pradesh on September 12 and moderate to heavy rains over the next few days.
