Heavy Mumbai Rain Causes Balcony Collapse: One Dead, Three Injured
On Saturday, a balcony fall in south Mumbai claimed one life and injured three more as the intense rainstorm that has been plaguing portions of Mumbai. Part of a four-story residential building on Grant Road in the city’s vicinity sustained damage in an incident, according to officials. The ancient building’s balcony collapsed due to the building’s flimsy structure and Mumbai’s constant downpour. According to sources, the fire brigade assisted about thirteen individuals who were stuck inside the building after rescue efforts were conducted.
Rubinnisa Manzil, the building where the incident happened, is situated on Sleater Road close to the Grant Road train station. Parts of the fourth story’s bottom floor, the balconies, and the slab portions of the second and third stories had all partially collapsed and were dangling perilously. According to officials, the event took place on Saturday at approximately 11:00 a.m. “A portion of the balcony fell, injuring four people. Three others are receiving treatment at the nearby hospital, where a woman was pronounced dead after they were taken there by ambulance, according to a fire department officer.
The woman who perished in the balcony collision was approximately 70 years old, yet her identity is still unknown. He stated that the old Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) building had previously received a notice from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declaring it unsafe. Thirteen individuals were freed from the building, but seven or eight are still trapped within the partially fallen building. The fire brigade is still working to rescue people at the location.

On Saturday, Mumbai and its suburbs had intermittent spells of intense rain, resulting in waterlogging in multiple areas. On the other hand, flight and train services continued as usual. Traffic was diverted on the route near Sheetal Cinema and Kale Marg, both in the Kurla region, due to waterlogging. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials claimed that traffic on the Aarey road in Goregaon east has been rerouted in both directions via Seepz-Marol Maroshi-JVLR. On Saturday, there was more heavy rain in some areas of Maharashtra. The IMD issued two alerts: a red one for Chandrapur and an orange one for the districts of Nagpur, Amravati, and Wardha.
