Google’s Sundar Pichai Reveals PM Modi’s Challenge to Top US CEOs on Innovation and AI

Following PM Narendra Modi’s roundtable discussion with notable CEOs of tech companies, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, stated that PM Modi has been committed to changing India. At a roundtable with CEOs of top US IT businesses, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s economic potential and spoke about programs to promote bilateral cooperation in a range of industries.

Pichai stated, “It is the vision of Digital India,” following the meeting. We should keep producing and designing in India, he (PM Modi) encouraged us to do. We are pleased to announce that our Pixel phones are now produced in India. He is genuinely considering how AI might change India for the betterment of its citizens.

He pushed us to consider applications in the fields of healthcare, education, and agriculture. He is also considering India’s infrastructure, including data centers, electricity, and energy, as well as investments to ensure that the country can change. Pichai also discussed Google’s intentions for India and its commitment in the growth of AI.

“We are honored to have India as a partner. In India, we are making significant investments in AI, and we intend to make even more. We’ve established several collaborations and programs. He has consistently pushed all of us to give India more, more of everything. He is now requesting that we use AI in the same way.

He has a distinct vision for the opportunities that artificial intelligence will present, but he also wants to ensure that these opportunities will eventually benefit India’s citizens. In his words, AI should serve the interests of the people of India. He is pushing us to work harder,” Pichai continued.

PM Modi In US: Tech Roundtable

The second leg of Modi’s three-day tour to the US was held on Sunday at the Lotte New York Palace Hotel. The CEOs of fifteen significant US-based companies that focus on cutting edge technologies including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and semiconductors participated in it. “Had a productive roundtable discussion about technology, innovation, and other topics with tech CEOs in New York. emphasized the advancements India has made in this area as well. “I am happy to see such hope for India,” Modi wrote in a post on X.

According to a news release from the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi stated during the conference that the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (ICET) and other technological collaborations form the foundation of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. The prime minister emphasized that India will work hard during his third term to rise to the position of the third-largest economy in the world and urged businesses to collaborate and innovate with India to benefit from its growth story.

Chief executive officers of major US technology companies, such as Jensen Huang of NVIDIA, Julie Sweet of Accenture, Shantanu Narayena of Adobe, and Pichai of Google, attended the conference, which was organized by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) School of Engineering. Huang claimed that PM Modi is an amazing student after meeting him. “He wants to learn more about technology every time I see him.”

Since artificial intelligence is a relatively new field, I am eager to work closely with India. We have partnerships with numerous Indian businesses, IITs, and startups. AI truly democratizes computing, and India is at a pivotal point right now,” Huang continued. The CEOs of AMD, HP Inc., IBM, and Verizon, as well as Dr. Noubar Afeyan, Chairman of Moderna, and Enrique Lores, CEO of HP Inc., were also present at the roundtable.

Modi emphasized the economic change occurring in the nation, notably in semiconductors and electronics and information technology production, while assuring business leaders of India’s strong commitment to promoting tech innovation and safeguarding intellectual property. Modi declared that the goal of his administration was to establish India as a “global hub of semiconductor manufacturing.”

In addition, he discussed India’s BIO E3 (biotechnology for environment, economy, and employment) strategy, which aims to make the nation a biotech powerhouse. Regarding artificial intelligence (AI), he mentioned that India’s objective is to promote AI for All, supported by its moral and responsible use.

The CEOs acknowledged that India’s innovation-friendly policies and burgeoning market prospects had contributed to its rising stature as a global technology hub. Along with expressing a strong desire to work and invest in India, they also agreed that funding startups would be a beneficial way for the nation to innovate and create fresh technologies. Additional attendees at the conference included Chris Viehbacher, CEO of Biogen Inc.; Chris Boerner, CEO of Bristol Myers Squibb; David A. Ricks, CEO of Eli Lilly and Company; Tim Archer, CEO of LAM Research; Thomas Caulfield, CEO of GlobalFoundries; and Martin Schroeter, CEO of Kyndryl.
