Sunil Gavaskar Warns of Setbacks in Rishabh Pant’s IPL Comeback: ‘He Won’t Be the Usual Rishabh Pant
The legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recently pushed Rishabh Pant to take back his place in the Indian squad. The former captain of India is well-known for saying that selectors should choose the “game-changer” for the Indian side even if Pant is fit for one leg. As he gets ready for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Pant is getting closer to making his way back to competitive cricket following the sad vehicle tragedy. Two years ago, Pant was involved in a catastrophic vehicle accident and sustained multiple injuries. The DC marquee player is expected to make his eagerly awaited return in the IPL 2024. It is believed that the left-hander has advanced to the later phases of his recovery. The National Cricket Academy (NCA)-rehabilitated Indian wicketkeeper will most likely only be able to participate as a batter under the Impact Player rule, at least in the competition’s opening round.
It will be quite challenging for him. Gavaskar, regarding Pant’s return
Gavaskar expressed his delight at Pant’s return and acknowledged that he is a huge fan of the dynamic batter. “I also think highly of him. The most crucial thing, in my opinion, is that he returns to full health so that he can visit and amuse us. He will find it quite challenging, and it will take some time for him to develop his batting fluency. However, it’s fantastic that he’s begun training,” Gavaskar said to Star Sports.

Who should captain the Delhi Capitals?
David Warner took Pant’s spot as the Delhi Capitals’ captain after he missed the whole 2023 campaign. When the playoffs roll around, Gavaskar thinks that Pant, who is fully recovered, should lead the Delhi-based club. During the IPL 2024 auction, the Delhi Caps signed Kumar Kushagra, Shai Hope, Harry Brook, and Tristan Stubbs. In the Indian Premier League of 2024, DC’s initial opponents will be the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). Visakhapatnam is the home stadium for the Delhi Capitals’ first two games.

“Maybe he won’t be the typical Rishabh Pant.”
“Knee is essential for both keeping and batting, even if he may not do both at first. Perhaps he won’t be the Rishabh Pant that we know and love. He is undoubtedly capable of quick thinking. The Delhi Capitals captaincy should be passed to him once he returns to full health. Let’s maintain our optimism. It is the first season since his return to full fitness. Gavaskar continued, “Let’s not push him into doing something that will cause a setback.
