Gautam Gambhir: ‘My Relationship with Virat Kohli Is Private, Not for TRP
Gautam Gambhir, the recently hired head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, stated on Monday that his highly publicized connection with batting star Virat Kohli “is between the two of us and not for TRPs.” Although there is ample documentation of the on-field altercations between Virat Kohli and Virat Gambhir, the two appeared to have gotten over their historical animosity. Following a KKR vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru game, the pair was spotted cuddling up to one another. A video of them having a spirited conversation went viral on social media.
But, the pair will now collaborate beginning on July 27 for the T20 and ODI trip of Sri Lanka. During his first press conference as Team India’s head coach, Gambhir stated, “My relationship with Virat Kohli is between the two of us and not for TRP.” Gambhir continued, “We have had lots of discussions and everyone has the right fight for their jersey” in reference to Kohli.
We currently represent 140 crore Indians, or the entirety of the Indian population. Off the field, our relationship with him is great. However, the general public is not intended for it. How many conversations I’ve had with him before, during, or after the game doesn’t matter. He is a world-class athlete and a committed professional, and hopefully he will stay that way, said Gambhir.

The monitoring of someone like Jasprit Bumrah’s workload becomes more important now that senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have left the T20 International scene, according to Gambhir. Following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup last month, both Rohit and Kohli declared their retirement from the shortest format. “Now that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play only two formats, I expect them to be available for most games,” Gambhir said.
