Father of Trainee Doctor Raped and Murdered at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College Seeks Justice for Daughter

According to the incident, a 31-year-old trainee doctor was raped and killed while taking rest inside the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Her father recounted to The Guardian the story of the incalculable loss, his daughter’s love for medicine, and the adversities in her life that she overcame to reach the dream of being a doctor, all for their aspirations to be cruelly shattered.

“She belonged to a poor family, and it was sheer hard work of my daughter that she studied and became a doctor. She just studied, studied, studied… All our dreams are shattered in one night. We sent her for work and the hospital gave us her body. It’s all finished for us.”

The seminar hall at RG Kar Medical College witnessed the presence of the postgraduate trainee doctor’s body on the morning of August 9. Arrested the very next morning was one civic volunteer named Sanjoy Roy in connection with this crime. Now the case has been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation by the Calcutta High Court.

The expressions of sorrow from the father reveal the extent to which this bereavement has sunk into the family. “My daughter isn’t coming back. I’m never going to hear her voice or laugh. All I can do now is concentrate on getting her justice,” he added.

This has sparked protests and strikes by doctors throughout India for the cause of justice to the victim and addressing safety concerns within hospitals.

This brutal incident has provoked widespread outrage and calls for swift justice, with the victim’s family and supporters demanding accountability and stronger protections for females in the medical profession.
