Farmers Slam Diljit Dosanjh for Meeting PM Modi: ‘Why Not Sambhu Border?
According to the article, protesting farmer leaders have sharply criticized Punjabi musician and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on New Year’s Day. Following the meeting, farmers who previously benefited from Dosanjh’s backing for their cause have questioned his dedication, arguing that it goes against his previous position.
The prime minister praised his ascent from modest beginnings to global fame, and Diljit Dosanjh called his encounter with Modi a “fantastic start” to the New Year. However, farmer leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction, saying that Jagjit Singh Dallewal, one of the protest’s leading participants, would have joined them in solidarity at the Sambhu Border if Diljit genuinely cared about their cause. Rather, his encounter with Prime Minister Modi cast doubt on his motivations.
Diljit Dosanjh strongly backed the farmers’ showings in 2020 and asked the public authority to consent to their requests. He wrote: “25 September” on social media to show his support for the farmers. All of us will support the agricultural community. The whole Punjabi population is supporting the farmers. At the very least, attempt to speak with the farmers, and everyone who supports the law.
Attention is still being drawn to the farmers’ continuous battle, which includes calls for a minimum support price (MSP) for crops to be legally guaranteed. The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, has been fasting till death at the Khanauri border to pressure the Center into granting the farmers’ requests. In support of Dallewal, thousands of farmers have assembled at the location, and the Punjab government has tried to step in by providing medical assistance, but Dallewal has turned it down.

The Punjab government has been directed by the Supreme Court to protect Dallewal’s health and abide by its directives about his hospitalization. Diljit was commended for his accomplishments during his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, who emphasized the sense of pride that comes from witnessing a young guy from a tiny hamlet become well-known around the world. In response, Diljit praised Modi’s life story and acknowledged the human side of his position as prime minister, citing the importance of family and the holy Ganga in forming his leadership.
