Farhan Akhtar Criticizes Ranbir Kapoor’s “Animal,” Calls the Film Problematic and Controversial
Six months after its release and “Animal,” starring Ranbir opened, all its associated facets find themselves into a loud debate. Recently, actor-director Farhan Akhtar lashed out at the film during an interview with Faye D’Souza, stating he will never lend his support to some problematic project like that. “Animal” got released in December last year, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, generating polarized reactions from audiences and critics alike. After all the controversy, the movie did go on to earn a lot of money at the box office.
Farhan, who was candid about the film, didn’t mince words. “The film didn’t create an impact on me. Is it something that I would recommend that any one should watch? I guess not,” he said. He even went on to say that had the choice been, he would not have produced “Animal,” since the character and themes of the movie didn’t catch him well.
“Animal” was trolled on social media for showcasing misogyny, toxicity, and violence. Celebs like Javed Akhtar and Swanand Kirkire have also lashed out at the film for the same reasons. This isn’t the first time Farhan has expressed his discontent regarding the film. Sometime back, he spoke with YouTuber Raj Shamani wherein he mentioned how, though he feels “creative expression” is important, in no way does he think that “Animal” is a “film” that he will approve of.

Ranbir Kapoor, who played the lead in the film as Rannvijay Singh, too reacted to the criticism in a conversation with Nikhil Kamath. He felt social media played a big role in exuding negative vibes about the film, which in his opinion overshadowed the hard work manifested about the making of the film. But “Animal” continues to garner talk within the industry.
The new movie, based on the storyline of a troubled father-son relationship and revenge, features actors Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Triptii Dimri, and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. A sequel is said to be in the works, going by the name “Animal Park.”.
