Donald Trump in First Speech After Assassination Attempt: ‘I Had God on My Side’

Donald Trump, who gave the keynote address at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, predicted a “incredible victory” in the US presidential election in November. Appearing to be emboldened by his escape from assassination and the apparent collapse of Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, Donald Trump accepted the Republican presidential nomination. “We will have an incredible victory in four months,” Donald Trump declared to the Milwaukee throng, before pledging to “be president for all of America, not half of America.”

It was the first address Donald Trump has given since a bystander was shot and killed last Saturday during a rally by a man in his twenties, injuring only his right ear. As he described his account of the attack, Donald Trump remarked that even though blood was flowing everywhere, “I felt very safe, because I had God on my side.” “Had I not moved my head at that exact moment, the assassin’s bullet would have hit its target perfectly, and I would not be here with you tonight,” said Donald Trump.

“I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of almighty God,” he stated, adding that “I am not supposed to be here tonight.” It was a providential moment, according to many. “During this week’s convention, when speakers have been talking about the shooting, we have heard some references to divine intervention. Trump is touching on a similar theme here,” the president stated. Trump declared, “I am running for president of all of America, not just half of America, because there is no victory in winning for half of America.” He was still wearing an ear bandage.

Chants of “USA”

The audience greeted Donald Trump on stage with “USA” chants, and some even referred to him as a heavenly figure. The warm-up acts featured conspiracy theorist and far-right media guru Tucker Carlson, who called Trump’s survival a historic milestone, and shirt-ripping hero Hulk Hogan from the 1980s. The assassination attempt turned Trump into the “leader of a nation,” Carlson stated.

After a barrage of scandals, an extraordinary attempt to reverse his defeat to Biden in the 2020 election, and 34 felony convictions in May in a criminal trial in New York, Trump, now 78, has moved on. He is growing more optimistic about a surprise comeback to power now that Republicans are supporting him more than before.

Joe Biden teeters

Due to growing concerns that his deteriorating physical health will cause him to lose in November, Joe Biden, 81, appeared on Friday to be on the verge of being compelled by his own Democratic Party to step down and make room for Vice President Kamala Harris or another contender. If Biden withdraws, senior Trump advisor Jason Miller told news agency AFP that “nothing fundamentally changes” for Trump.

Trump’s son Eric excited the audience with a “fight, fight, fight!” cry while his family was present. Arriving to a standing ovation, Trump’s wife Melania, who has been conspicuously absent from the campaign, chose not to speak, marking a significant departure from US political practice at such occasions.
