Maharashtra Police Files Case Against YouTuber Dhruv Rathee Over Parody Account’s Post
Popular YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was the target of a charge filed by Maharashtra’s cyber police on Saturday, according to a senior official. The claim was made that a spoof user had posted a false message on X regarding the daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The account @dhruvrahtee fraudulently stated that Birla’s daughter had passed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) test without taking it, according to a report from the state cyber agency.
The parody account’s bio on X reads, “This is the fan and parody account and not affiliated with the original account of @dhruv_rathee.” avoiding adopting phony identities. This narrative is parodic. According to the official, the police filed charges against the YouTuber under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for defamation, malicious insult with purpose to incite a breach of peace, and making a statement that led to mischief in response to a complaint from a relative of Birla. They also filed charges under the IT Act.
The official stated, “We are investigating the matter,” when it was discovered that the purportedly phony message had been sent by a parody account rather than Rathee’s own. On Saturday, the parody account posted on X. “I have deleted all of my posts and comments on Anjali Birla per @MahaCyber1’s instructions. I apologize for sharing someone else’s tweets without knowing the full context.”

Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal stated earlier this year that after Rathee’s video revealed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s assistant, Bibhav Kumar, had allegedly assaulted her, she had received threats of rape and death. In a post on X, Rathee claimed that there had been multiple attempts to discredit him and that “perpetrators are pretending to be victims,” but he did not provide names. “False accusations against me, daily threats of death, dehumanizing remarks, orchestrated efforts to discredit me,” he declared. I’ve gotten used to it now.
